Erik Schlopy waits until his skis are above the gate to start his turn, and then bends his outside ski to arc back under the gate. Check out the video (Ctrl and Click to open in a new window).

Can you see the difference in how you ski with and without ski poles? Look for those extra movements with the arms and upper body that you make when skiing with poles compared to the hands on hips drill. Try to eliminate them from your skiing!
